“When I attended The Club, it was during 4th and 5th grade and all the way through high school. Although my visits became less frequent as I grew older, I found my way back to The Club when I started working there. It has been an experience that has shaped many aspects of my life.
One of my fondest memories from The Club was winning the boys’ soccer championship in back-to-back years during 7th and 8th grade. Those victories were moments of pure joy and teamwork that I’ll never forget.

“The Club also gave me the opportunity to try new things, like skiing, which became a memorable adventure. My favorite activity as a Club member was the sleepovers, especially hearing Randy’s scary stories, which were equal parts thrilling and hilarious. If I could, I’d go back just to experience those sleepovers again.
To me, being a member of The Club meant being part of a family—a place where everyone looked out for one another. It was a community built on trust, support, and shared experiences. One piece of advice I carry with me from those days is to find something you love and pursue it wholeheartedly. It’s a simple yet powerful lesson that has guided me through life.”

“Something uniquely special about me is that I can solve a Rubik’s cube, a skill I’m pretty proud of. And now, working at The Club, I love that I get to give back to the kids and create the same warm, welcoming environment I experienced. It’s rewarding to pass on the sense of belonging and joy that The Club gave me growing up.” – Miles

Sabrina Montano’s Journey with the Bingo Bonanza: A Reflection on Fundraising and Community
|
|
Sabrina Montano’s involvement with the Bingo Bonanza fundraiser was rooted in personal initiative and a history of volunteering. “My mom and other moms played a huge role in the success of previous bingos, and it was fun to help with small tasks when I was younger,” she shared. This family connection and her desire to contribute to the community inspired her to take on the responsibility of running the event.
The primary goal of the fundraiser was to support the Salesian Boys & Girls Club (SBGC), continuing the legacy of what was once The Mothers’ Club’s biggest event, now undergoing rebranding as the Grigio Club. Although Sabrina had never organized an event like this before, her past experience behind the scenes at Club events like cioppinos, galas, and luncheons provided valuable insights and confidence.

Taking on the role of organizer, Sabrina was motivated by timing and a sense of duty. “It just so happened that no one else had stepped up, and I knew I had the time for it this year. After expressing interest, the ladies who ran it before were very supportive and helped me every step of the way,” she explained. With a well-established event to build upon, her goal was to diversify the audience and encourage attendance from all genders and age groups, shifting the perception that Bingo Bonanza was primarily a women’s event. She set her sights on exceeding last year’s monetary and experiential achievements, emphasizing positive reviews on food, auction items, and the overall atmosphere.
Sabrina assembled a dedicated planning team by reaching out to the women who had run the event in the past, many of whom eagerly offered their support. The timeline for planning was structured around an existing framework, with adjustments made for efficiency. Donations were a key focus, and Sabrina utilized creative methods like leveraging The Share Way platform, soliciting in-person and online contributions, and engaging sports team parents. A notable challenge was convincing busy parents to donate. Offering the option to send money online proved successful and will be prioritized in future fundraisers. Challenges faced during the event, such as food and bar service, were acknowledged and have led to plans for improvement next year. Despite these hiccups, the event achieved key successes, including strong silent auction participation and enthusiastic feedback from attendees.

Reflecting on the outcomes, Sabrina emphasized the importance of fostering community involvement. “We need more Club parents to volunteer—these events are fun and a great way to build relationships,” she urged. Looking ahead, she plans to streamline processes, set hard deadlines for donations, and consolidate tasks earlier. Sabrina’s passion for the event and the community shines through as she continues brainstorming ideas for future bingos. “Email

with any suggestions, comments, or concerns,” she encouraged, embodying the collaborative spirit that defines the Salesian way.
